Back from the UK with SWAG

Jarod | June 6, 2008

Just got back from Windsor. Before we had to catch the plane, a very nice colleague of ours dropped a friend and me off at a retail park in Staines near Heathrow (cheers again, Dallas mate! Mad driving…skills). I stressed out my credit card a bit and bought Mass Effect and Age Of Conan (uncensored, yeah!). I’m just tired now and all I want is sleep, but the weekend will see some serious gaming.

Aunt Dani, we’re so going to go karting again if you dare us. Have nice weekend and see all of you on Monday, t’was some great fun wasn’t it.

PS. And yeah Jen, I will work on the consistency of my pronounciation. US or UK – I dunno, gonna be US if I spend more time around you I guess ;)

And while I wait

Jarod | June 1, 2008

… for Age Of Conan and Mass Effect, I play Psychonauts. In general I’m not a big fan of jump-and-runs, but this one is so whacky and creative, I’ve always wanted to play it. And last week I found a place where I could get it for free! I don’t want to advertise too hard here, but on GameTap you can download and play many casual games and a couple older “real” games for free – you don’t even need to register. Newer ones, like Overlord, are available if you buy a subscription (US and Canada only). But as I said, Psychonauts is free, as is Tomb Raider Legends, as is Thief: Deadly Shadows, and that’s a must-have. I’ll never forget the horror of “The Cradle” in Thief. I had nightmares. And now you can also get the original Deus Ex – well I don’t have to say much about that one, do I.

Although I’ve hardly had any time to play due to work stress this month, I feel the “itch” again. Two more weeks and the worst will be over, then I’ll have time for some serious gaming.

Movie-wise, my rental service apparently struggles to send me any new DVDs. I have like 30 on my wishlist, but they seem all to be taken. Well, at least they sent me I Am Legend last week, which I really enjoyed, even though the story felt very much like 28 Days Later – only set in New York. But New York … the sets looked so incredibly real. Will Smith was great, too. Only the zombies somewhat disappointed, they looked artificial in my eyes. And why did none of the characters wonder how the boss zombie managed to lead his “army” of sub-zombies and why he showed so much intelligence? Still, highly recommended.
